University log book question...!!!!!

Hi.
My son is going into a house for las r years at uni.
Do we have to change his log book and. Driving licence to the new address.

I would, just to be tidy. As important is changing the address on the insurance, this is a must.

When I was insuring the boys' cars, when we put their occupation as student, there were a few extra questions including student studying at home and student studying away from home. We chose the student studying away from home and a further question came up asking the term time address for the car. With that, both the home address and the term time address for their universities were recorded on the policies. You also don't have to change the address on the V5 or driving licence as long as the communications to the registered keeper and driver can be received.

Personally would leave all the addresses possible at the non term time address. When I was at uni all bank addresses and driving licence etc was left there as it’s the more stable. With the best will in the world it’s easy to forget one if moving every year.

But deffo not the insurance.

Insurance should be updated.
Where is the car normally kept? Question that is normal on policies. This needs to show the option for Uni as well as home address.
Think of the “failure to disclose or inaccurate” clause.
V5 should be ok with home address. Any NIPs, parking tickets etc will go to the home address of the reg keeper on the V5.

Find out the insurance company policy. Some allow you to have either term time address or parent’s home address. In this case choose the cheapest address. V5 address will depend on the insurance company too some want it to be the same as the insurance address.

As above, leave V5 at home and keep a sharp eye on any post coming in + tell insurance that it's being kept away from home as he's a student studying away from home. A lot of them have this as an option and you'll have to pay a fee to change.

Consider that the halls of residence might have a permit parking system that requires the car to be registered there, or even no parking at all offered.
