What a waste of time!

Got a Council Bus Lane infringement notice through the door today for a time and place where we haven't been with that car.
Phoned them up - on hold for 45 mins, they say we sent you the photo's (they did but they are black and white photocopies and completely illegible), it must be you its your reg. If you think its not report it to the police get a crime number and write to us with detailed evidence demonstrating that you were not there (how do I prove a negative?) and we will consider whether you still have to pay.
Called the Police on 101, on hold for 1hr 10 mins before they answered, explained the situation, they logged a cloned plate (this took about 25 mins)
Police called me back to say that they have looked at the camera footage, Council are idiots and they have written the number down incorrectly and its a totally different type and colour of car
Called council , on hold for 30 mins and they say we don't look at the type of car or the number, we just send out the notice. You still have to write in and explain it all and we will consider whether we will cancel the fine.
WTF, if the police can view the Council cameras and tell straight away that its a different car with a similar number, why cant the council?

and i still have to spend another 30 plus mins writing to them, 20 mins driving to the nearest post office to send the "representation" by recorded delivery.

It will take 5 mins to write a letter explaining very simply, it was not you, police have confirmed it is a different car / colour etc.They will not accept it without a written explanation and evidence

ps I'd suggest 220 working days per annum rather than 330, unless OP works weekends as well...
