Afternoon all.
Some enterprising person appears to have copied the plates from my car and has been driving through France getting me speeding fines.
When I received my first ticket I contacted the local police non-emergency number to explain the issue and they were very helpful, they took my details down, told me to write to the DVLA with the crime reference number they gave me with an explanation of the issue. This I dutifully did and I also received a follow up call from our local station explaining my registration is now on the PNC so hopefully if the car comes back into the UK it will get stopped. I also spoke to a very nice French person who also cancelled my speeding tickets and told me not to worry and I'm not in any bother.
I've only owned this particular car since November so I expect they may have got the plate details off Autotrader, I'm not really keen on driving it at the moment as I expect to get pulled due to having a marker on the plate. The DVLA hasn't come back to me yet so I sit here awaiting their advice.
In the great scheme of things I expect there is not much that can be done, however if anybody has been through a similar issue any advice would be appreciated.

You could change the plate on yours - easier route might be buying a cheap 'cherished' plate?
I looked at doing this, the cheapest NI style plates are about £135.00 all in with reg transfer - which funnily enough is the price of the first fine I received!I'd rather spend that on bits for the car to be honest, but if I don't hear anything in the next few weeks I may consider this. Though I think I'll look a bit chav with a set of cheap 'cherished' plates on my car!

year a go I remember reading about a bloke who changed his name to the registration of his car. If I remember rightly it was one of those pale blue Mk2 Fiestas you used to see all the time. I think he became a 'C' reg!

Well, its the only real alternative to your issue, of there being another ticket from another day, from another force or local council..I'd rather spend that on bits for the car to be honest, but if I don't hear anything in the next few weeks I may consider this. PH has example where people have done this successfully, if you search.
Don't forget, you get to take the cheap plate off when you sell the car and sell it on for the same price or potentially more money.

I had similar when I sold a car on ebay, started recieving numerous DART charges and parking fines from the London area. Spoke to the relevant companies proving the car wasnt mine, the Police to report the cloned plates and I never heard anything again.
