What does this mean ?

hi all, on a title plan is this mark that looks like an "S". It runs across a boundary line. It seems be from an old title plan , have tried to search but nothing as yet. So thought I would ask you kind and knowledgeable gents..................thanks

It’s a vinculum.

I’m in Aus so things may be different but in my world you have 2 parcels of land, likely a dwelling then a courtyard separated by a wall. The vinculum tells us that the 2 parcels of land are part of the same lot despite the wall so eg the owner of the dwelling owns the courtyard.

Is it painted on? If so then I don’t know what it is.
Is it a metal bracket? If so then it might be an anchor point for a tie bar? I have seen those on older buildings especially where a wall needs bracing.

The elongated S is an area brace symbol. Just means that the two areas of land divided by the hedgeline were part of the same parcel of land when the map was drawn up

This - the land sizes either side of the boundary were added together rather than shown singly.

It's a symbol from old feudal times.

It means the owner of the property has rights of prima nocte over the sheep in both fields.
