This is a simple legal question , the deeper discussion is being held on the CV19 in schools thread .

So mods please do not move

Can a school use GDPR as a reason for refusing to confirm whether or not a student in a particular year group ,now tested positive for CV19 ,and in quarantine with the rest of the year group “bubble “ had used a feeder bus with students of other year groups .Thereby putting other students at risk .

I don't think that would be personal information, you don't need to know the pupils name, just if they were on the bus.

That said, does the bus policy require them to wear masks on the bus and to maintain spacing in year groups?

Are you planning to carry a pitchfork, a spade handle, or some other implement before you set fire to the house? Pitchforks are the traditional choice.

In other news, did you know that you can get RSI from curtain twitching? Could be nasty.

If you can directly or indirectly identify an individual through the disclosure of information then that is personal data.

As this relates to health, it is a special category of personal data.

Essentially, they are correct, but i think it is through chance - the school has just guessed at GDPR as being the reason as to why they don't want to get involved.

Meanwhile on to sensible posts , yes the bus co does have a fully masked and limited capacity policy on their busses , but with one driver and no other supervision on the bus .......

This would clearly be excessive. The normal approach would be to brick up the doors and ground floor windows with the occupants inside.

If I read this right you already know that student A has had a test and tested positive and you want confirmation if student A was on a particular bus? So you are not asking for health data about that student. So the question is (if I am correct):

Does the GDPR prevent releasing whether a specific person was on a specific bus?

That is a fair, balanced, and moderate proposal, and I agree with it.

It prevents a data controller or processor from releasing data directly or indirectly relating to an individual where it does not have that individual's express consent; unless it is for a number of specific purposes (e.g. law enforcement).

This thread may be a neat illustration of the hysteria that Covid, and the Government's inept reactions to it, aided by irresponsible media, have caused. OP, you might wish to look at some of the papers on the website of the Centre for Evidence Based Medicine. Simple message: don't panic.

Correct
That is all we would like to know , then we , as a family , can then take extra precautions for a week or so.

This thread is a neat illustration of how a question , can bring out the stupidity of some contributers who seem unable to answer a simple question .
Just to repeat , I will do it loud , just to help it sink in , ARE THE SCHOOL CORRECT IN USING GDPR AS AN EXCUSE TO REFUSE TO CONFIRM OR DENY A BUS WAS USED BY AN INFECTED PERSON . Nothing else
Not difficult is it ?

Is the correct answer. There are separate procedures for the test and trace system, but it doesn't look as if they apply here.

Edit - it is test and trace not track and trace, sorry if any confusion caused

I am perfectly capable of answering your question. I exercised a free choice not to do so. Others have answered the question for you, so all is well. My observations are about the irrational basis for your question. I am sorry that you are, it appears, easily frightened, but help is at hand - have a look at some of the calm and evidence based info about Covid, and you may feel less tense and be less shouty.

PS: The word is "contributors". HTH.

If you are so paranoid that you actually believe all the hysterical scaremongering then surely the thing to do is to is to take those extra precautions for a week or so NOW.
Why are you worrying about GDPR?
By the time you get the answer (that you already know), any potential threat will have long since come and gone and any action you then take, will be completely pointless.
