I had the joy of driving round the Northants ring road yesterday & came across the dual carriageway with £specs cameras on.

So everyone drives along at 50mph, refuses to move out to the outside lane at every junction causing choas & uneccessary mishaps at every flippin junction.

In my view that road is now more dangerous because of drivers lack of reactions to other road users, due to excessive concentration on speed matters. MY BET IS THE NUMBER OF JUNCTION ACCIDENTS HAS INCREASED ON THAT STRETCH.

It's great fun on this stretch when you come up to your junction and you need to change lane to turn left or right (across the gap in the centre).

Now you have to manoevre yourself around the cars in the adjacent lane doing the same speed as yourself without risking exceeding the limit.

A simple manoevre now becomes a complicated on involving taking your eyes off the road in front many times. Especially so if you're unfamiliar with the roads and don't know where the turning is until you see the signs.

How I long for the Speed Camera Partnerships to realise the detrimental affect this has on safety this rather than retreating behind their moronic chants of 'Slow is good'.

Its a splendid waste of our money, if you ask me.

Since the introduction, of this local facility, the number of home phone calls from 'Olan Mills' offering me portait photographs at knock down prices, have trailed off to virtually nil.
Now anyone with a car, just needs to pelt throught this stretch, and the results drop through the letterbox.

See !

What really annoys me is when I join the dual carriageway between cameras. Those doing 50 mph WILL NOT get out of my way so that I can steam along at 70!

No great surprise really; clicked on a hyperlink in another post to what I <think> was the Manchester Evening News website about dangerous spped cameras being pulled out (!!Yay!!!)

Apparently, there's been a survey done by the <think> RAC which claims that

Drivers suffer a 40% drop in road observation immediately before during and after a speed camera due to looking at thier speedo all the time

Obviously it would be useful to recall exactly which survey this was; if anyone else has read the thread in question would they be so kind as to post a hyperlink?!

But that's how they justify the cameras

BTW I had cause to use that road myself on the way to Silverstone, some time back and made 'good progress' on the bike - with no front plate
