Towing with a bar - Legalities

I need to move a Impreza as my unit is being demolished, the car is fully working except the top half of the engine is missing. What is the law regarding towing the car on a public road. I always thought it would need to have all 4 wheels off the ground unless taxed/insured but a link on the internet seems to contradict this.

A car being towed with any wheels touching the road has to be road legal.

Though I would assume insurance/sorn status is far more likely to be checked than the engine condition.

So if on sorn / no insurance, you'd be on a very sticky wicket if you went past an anpr car.

Whereas if they're both fine, what's the likelihood of the police stopping you anyway just to check you have a full complement of cylinder heads installed?

Even if they did stop after a SORN/Insurance check passed, would they not just take a "the engines not working"? Assuming the rest of the car was road legal.

You're all wrong, take inlet manifold off any everything around it, top half of engine is gone Bottom half is still there, heads included

If you do end up towing it, don't forget to put the keys in it to release the steering lock...
