How long to transfer registered keeper and get new V5?

Has anyone done this recently? If doing online, how long did it take?
Need to transfer car from wife's to my name.
Also, its currently insured in her name and I'm a listed driver. If I transfer to me am I gonna get in trouble if I don't inform the insurance company? Theres only a month left on it and I'm guessing they'll use it as an excuse to charge me. I have something like 17 years no claims and have my own car.

Done online, it should be done, with a new v5 on your doormat within a week.
Insurers need telling, and they will fairly inevitably charge a fee, but as I understand it, they treat cars in a marriage as joint, i.e. you can insure your wife's car with you as primary driver, and they won't care.
Which begs the question, why do it? It adds another owner for no real reason. Now the V5 doesn't have the previous owners name, the story won't even be believable

I didn't want to mention the reason because it would complicate my post but essentially its going to a foreign country (non EU) for about 6 months and will be insured there for that period. As part of that process and for various reasons it makes sense to have the V5 in my name.

Bought new car in August on a Friday, dealer did the change online and I had the V5 on the Wednesday. Sold my old car 3 weeks ago, again updated online on the Monday and had the postal confirmation by the friday.
Seem to be especially quick at present.
On the flip side, Son In Law bought a car end of August and didn't actually get the new V5 in the post until last week. We assumed the dealer had done it postally and not rushed about it (either that or he held fire to see if he brought the heap back

I filled in the details last weekend and today (Wednesday) it arrived. Really fast. BUT it still had my wife's name on it. The document number and reference numbers all changed but the details were the same.
I got on to DVLA chat who when I got past the "bot" to a real person he told me he couldn't help and I'd need to call in.....
So I rang in and the automated system makes it almost impossible to select options that give you a real person. I eventually found the combination that worked and maybe because it is so damn hard to figure it out, there weren't that many other people queueing.
I was advised to fill in one section and send the whole thing into DVLA and a cover letter who would take "4 weeks in normal times...". She told me she wouldn't advise doing another transfer online as it would confuse the situation when DVLA got my v5 back. That was really bad news for me as it is preventing a trip to where my family are (yes I could fly and may do in the meantime but they really need this car there).
Anyway, I decided I've nothing to lose by trying online again and going against her advise. My thinking is maybe just maybe when I filled in the online form at the weekend I incorrectly entered her details as both "seller" and "buyer" which caused the problem. The online system worked and this time I was absolutely certain it had my details correct as the new keeper.

This forum is not MSE - most blokes are pretty friendly to each other here.What do you know about non-uk, non-eu insurance companies, non-uk, non-eu border police and other non-uk, non-eu regulations around motor vehicles pertaining to a particular small country on the other side of Europe?

No worries. Yes, I need it in a particular name because the person that imports the car to this country is the only one who can drive it (unless you want to pay their standard 50% import tax).I had missed your earlier answer, that is all, not meant to be 'un-friendly'.
