Confusing Roundabout signage

There's a roundabout in High Wycombe that I have been driving past / through regularly for the past 20 years, but I've recently noticed a merge right sign (it's probably been there since forever)

This seems to be directing people in the left hand land to merge into the right hand lane. The thing is, the left hand lane is the busy one, with people going left and over the overpass. The right hand lane is much quieter, and people in that lane are turning right or going straight on. If you were in the right hand lane and then tried to go left, people would get very upset.

Any thoughts on what you're supposed to do?

It looks to me like the left lane shown with the merge arrows doesn’t start until you’re through the lights and exists to let traffic - probably buses - out of the junction on the left to go over the overpass or bridge or whatever it is. I don’t believe it’s suggesting you should use the lane 2 at the lights to go that way.

The two lanes that would allow you to go left over the overpass towards the M40 merge into one lane. So the sign is telling you that those two lanes merge into one. It's not confusing at all in my opinion!

its a fudge, as the overpass (AIUI) requires strengthening works to allow dual carriageways over it.

They blocked the inner lane off and then made up the road markings.

Its been like that for a fair few years now, and all the locals just get on with it.

Thanks - I get it now - it's all about the overpass. The other road that goes past Sainsburys also has a merge right sign on it, but that also has a box underneath saying "140 yds", which makes the meaning a lot clearer.

Can’t say that I see a problem.
Just the usual ‘try not to have a vehicle in your blind spot‘ scenario, which can apply to many places.
