Business closures and Common Law

I am seeing more and more businesses stating common law , putting signs up in the window and refusing to close their business in lockdown 2... what actually is the law and do these people have a leg to stand on.

I saw yesterday they are looking to scrap the 10k fines as if they are challenged they wont be upheld...

This utter nonsense has nothing to do with the common law. It is, as noted above, the claptrap known as FOTL.

You are mistaken about the fines. The correct position is discussed on the recent pages of the Rule of Six Thread.

Reminds me of this story I heard years ago - probably a modern myth but amusing anyway

Man refused to pay his council tax, and declared his house an independent country and that the tax couldn't be enforced.

Government erected a fence around his property and told him he needed a visa to enter the UK, cost of visa was way more than council tax.

Cardinal Vincent Nichols sits in the House of Lords so he's a member of our legislature.

He pushed for the issue of Modern Slavery to be made legislation.

Is Modern Slavery much different from Priests abusing their position to get sexual with children?

Modern Slavers and Paedophile Priests target the vulnerable, abuse their position to coerce and control others.


So yeah it may all be FOTL, wibble and Nazi Space Lizards but when we have Priests failing to deal with sexual offences against children, offences committed by other priests of their particular brand of Sky Fairy, helping creating new legislation that involves offences not that dissimilar to other offences they themselves have failed to deal with properly, conspiracy theorists ideas aren't a million miles wide of the mark?

But then again where would capitalism and consumerism be without Sky Fairies.

Sky Fairies, like wars, keep people in jobs and dinners on tables.
