partial plate search?
Discussion
are there any hints/tips for finding a vehicle with a partial plate numbers/ letters? ...asking because someone has crashed into our property (demolished a driveway wall) & left the scene
In the debris is a fair bit of the front number plate: B_20 G__ & the plate maker being Suzuki Autosales WV14 7JW, so info suggests a very new Suzuki
Police informed (need to fill in an online incident form) & ill contact the dealership today (although i doubt they'll supply any info) but are there any other avenues i can try, other than trying combos of missing letters on the DVLA vehicle checker?
Im not asking to trace the address of the owner, just find Suzuki's that match the above plate info (my logic tells me it can only be a handful of vehicles)

That wouldn't take too long, perhaps just a couple of hours on the online DVLA tax checker. The second character has to be limited as to the geographical area, and the range of the last two will be in a sequence around those registered by the issuing garage. Look at the Garage's web site, see their used stock, to get close to the range ?
If there's 23 letters that can be used in each of the 3 positions, that's only around 12,000 combinations.
I'm happy to check 10 or so for you.
Edit It's none of BA20 GA(A-Z)
BA20 GAS is on a Peugeot.
Someone else want to try BA20 GB(A-Z)?

It’s 24 unfortunately, as Z is used in the ‘Random letters’. We just need the OP to check that Bilston falls into the Birmingham licensing area of BD. Then there are only 576 to check! I'm happy to check 10 or so for you.

thanks everyone!
we've found a few more fragments of the plate, which seem to indicate the second letter is either G, O or U
so either: BG20 G**, BO20 G** or BU20 G**
no cctv unfortunately (we're pretty rural) but have put a post on local FB page to see if anyone has any dash cam footage (there was a fair bit of traffic caused including our local bus service- which we've also contacted)
attempted to contact dealership with no joy so far

Theyll find a batch of possible matches (assuming anybody checks) - not the specific car
Possibly, but it will be a very small 'batch'. I can't see Suzuki Autosales with that post code selling too many 20 plate vehicles. shouldn't be hard to find.Edited by Bigends on Saturday 21st November 17:04

If you have other parts in the debris, it may help with Make or model, and hopefully colour, and the number could be reduced if they gamble on a local keeper.
If not, it could be hundreds of vehicles. Are you expecting a personal visit to each registered keeper to check for damage? Several may be lease/hire vehicles, or registered to a head office.
For a serious incident I could see these enquiries being done. For damage to a wall, maybe not.
