Laws regarding mopeds
Discussion
Im sure this has been asked before, I have looked back through the forums but it has not been exactly what I am looking for.
Anyhoo,
I was thinking of buying a moped for the summer (50cc vision type thing) as a runabout but what is the law now as regards riding the thing? I had a moped for a while and I passed my car test in 1984 and never took a bike test so what do I do now? I remember at one time you could use them forever on a car licence(urban myth) or do I now need to take a full test even though I have ridden one (OK a while back). If it envoles quite a few quid then I will give it a miss.
thanks

Having passed the test before 1.1.97 for a motor car you now have B category on your Licence.
Under Schedule 2 M.V. (Driving Licence) Regs 1999, B category gives you FULL additional entitlement for Cat. P which is a moped.
Moped - less than 4 wheels, max design speed not exceeding 50 kilometers an hour and if propelled by an internal combustion engine, has a cylinder capacity of not exceeding 50 cc.
Dont forget your helmet....

Ok I just looked at my licence it does indeed say "p" (small) so I presume I do NOT need to take a test? but do I need "L" plates.
Thanks
