Following the good advice on my Tier 4 thread, and at the risk of upsetting the same people again...
Is anyone aware of the rules regarding travelling for work?
In normal times I commute to Europe weekly, where I work, where I am resident, and where I have a home.
I’d hoped to get back out there later this month, as there are some things that I really do need to do locally. I also have an appointment to sort out my permanent residency which I really don’t want to miss if it can be avoided. Less critical, but still very desirable is that I’d like to check that my home hasn’t exploded or been stolen, and bring back my car which has been stuck there for eleven months.
Can I travel for work (and therefore also do the other things while I am there), or is that right off the cards?

Nothing wrong with travelling for work purposes and nothing wrong with sorting out personal things while there but atm how are you going to get there?
I have a car hire buisness in Spain (Nerja, Malaga) being looked after by my Spanish buisness partner but atm have no way of being there..

It’s pretty easy to check out the entry requirements for the destination country. You need to check as updated regularly, like here..
Eg France, you’ll need to be on an essential worker list & have the correct type of covid test within 72 hours.
Also certain residency/relocation reasons are allowed.
This kind of thing needs checking on their websites.

No issue with entry, it’s the UK side that I’m not clear on, as the international travel rules and going out for work rules seemed to disagree.Eg France, you’ll need to be on an essential worker list & have the correct type of covid test within 72 hours.

Had the right work papers & a PCR test done the day before.
No problems
Not sure if yesterday’s announcement changes that..

You’ll have to self isolate on your return to the U.K. from a trip to the Netherlands, if you drive back via France (or other European country) that will also be the case. Ten days of self isolation, or you can do a full 5 days, then get tested and if it’s a clear result, end your self isolation a few days earlier, probably day 7.

Yes, I do a full day’s work in my office at home (11 or 12 hours), spend a couple of hours with my two little boys, exercise, eat, and sleep.Other than the odd drive out once in a while that’s been it. Doing it for ten straight days isn’t really much of a change.

Each to their own I guess. One thing to note is that you can’t head back to Holland during the self isolation period either. Other than the odd drive out once in a while that’s been it. Doing it for ten straight days isn’t really much of a change.

The OP has stated a couple of times elsewhere that he’s resident in Holland IIRC so that might alter what both of us have been saying. I don’t think he’s a weekly commuter either. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronav...

I am, or rather I was before I decided that it wasn’t a smashing idea from a public health point of view. I’d been intending to pick it up later this month, so (I’d argue) the first trip out there is the start of my new weekly commute.unident said:
