Looking for a bit of advise on the TV licensing laws as they stand .and to check we have done everything as reasonably practicle to not pick up a live signal w

For the last two years we have not watched live TV .....this may seem a little strange but bare with me , We had SKY TV up to a year ago ,

the signal in the New forest was so poor it meant the majority of people had to have a sky box to watch terrestrial as well as sky programmes I am hardly in the country and when here only watch Netflix and Amazon prime , and tv is rigged up to a PS3 which our son uses .

we decided to bin the Sky contract so , as she stands

SKY dish has been removed
Terrestrial TV Ariel has been removed
There are no set boxes connected to the tv.

when you turn on the tv ..naturally it states no signal present
on bbc iplayer which appears by default ..you have to log in , I have not done so for a year

is there anyway to remove the BBC iplayer icon from an LG tv ?

TV can still pick up channel 4 catch up / ITV catch up via internet

I've made the declaration on the web portal stating truthfully that we do not watch live broadcasts so dont require a tv license , is there anything more we need to do , I've heard horror stories of Capita goons trying to pull a fast one ... and also obstruction ?

I presume sometime in the future we will get a visit from Capita , ... i was going to point out the lack of TV Ariel and sky dish ,

any advice appreciated cheers

That is a very misleading page, I would guess deliberately so.
"watch or stream programmes live on an online TV service"
Remember a TV licence is only needed for watching LIVE broadcasts (or iPlayer) although this does include live stuff on Amazon or ITV or whatever (typically sport events perhaps?)
So if you don't watch the live stuff on Amazon you are fine
The only non live streaming stuff that is covered is iPlayer, but you said you don't use that so that's ok.

Rubbish.
Yoiu can't watch a live tv signal from any source - including amazon prime.
You can watch films / tv shows from amazon prime all day and night with no need for a licence.

All right then, keep your hair on. Was just providing a link that I thought scuppered his plans, no need to shoot the messenger.

Would anyone else like to say the same thing? I’m not sure the previous 6 answers were enough.

I have a car.
I don't need a licence if I don't use it.
So what?

I don't understand this.

I had assumed the TV license was to pay for BBC and therefore was needed if you watch the BBC from any source (terrestrial, Sky, whatever).

So in reality is a better explanation that the TV license is needed if you watch any LIVE TV from any source?

what does "live" mean?

every digital TV picture/sound is NOT live due to inherent delays in the TV / devices signal processing circuits. as I'm typing this I've also got the BBC news channel playing on the computer and the program - which has the time bottom right - is 2 minutes behind the actual time

It is a tax to pay for the BBC but because they know most people would fk it off rather than pay for their ste they make it so you can't watch any Live TV.

Are you proud of your stupidity? If you’re using the equipment capable of doing such then best of luck convincing the authorities you aren’t doing so

So that's a 'yes' then.

They do live sport events etc, they appear in the menus when they’re on.

It's really simple (and made deliberately opaque by TV Licensing who are no doubt happy to profit from confusion).

1) You do not need to disable/uninstall/remove anything. At all.

2) All you need to do is not watch or record anything on any platform if it is being broadcast live. That's it, it's that simple. You could not watch Sky News' live feed on YouTube for example, however you could watch a recording of a Sky News item later that day. Anything catch-up or pre-recorded is absolutely fine to watch (on any platform).

3) Ignore all letters from TV Licensing (two years after cancelling your licence, the threatograms come through roughly once a month).

4) If you ever get a visit from Capita then just close the door once you know who they are; obviously you would never confirm who you are to a complete stranger at the door without knowing who THEY are first, correct? There is no legal requirement to talk to them or let them into your home, treat them like a cold-calling door-to-door salesperson (which is what they are).

Oh - step 5) Spend the money you save on something nice!
