Bought Sim Only Deal - Falsely Advertised 5G
Discussion
I previously was with Vodafone (10 years) and had a 5G plan and as expected got a 5G signal.
I had network issues since November which they couldn't fix so I left to go with o2 which was a huge mistake as o2 were worse.
Realising Voda is the better option I decided to go back with them.
This is where Fonehouse come into play.
I ordered a 12GB 5G plan (clearly with 5G in the title and on all correspondence) and in the 2+ weeks I've been on said plan, I have never managed to get a 5G signal which I thought was odd.
So I contacted Vodafone who said my plan doesn't have 5G which Fonehouse are disputing saying it does and all Voda sims are 5G ready (this was repeatedly said and they don't grasp 5G ready doesn't mean you have 5G on your plan which I argued)
The plan is the Red 1GB with 11GB extra added on - This plan doesn't have 5G.
I'm a bit stumped as to what to do as I'm over the cancellation period and FH said they will investigate but I have little faith that they will given I have had to call them 8 times without a result as of yet.
Any advice?

Also 5G is exceptionally patchy, might be worth looking at the map to see if you are in it, on the fringes or outside for each carrier, 5G currently is a little pointless unless you are well into a hot spot ..

Also it used to say I have 5G on my account, whereas now it doesn't.
Also Vodafone red plans don’t have EU roaming. They are UK only. Also it used to say I have 5G on my account, whereas now it doesn't.
One reason why I never went with their ‘value’ sim deals.

Says they all have 5G. But at the bottom only subs with more than 5gb. You have 1gb plus 11 which is probably the Issue. It is however misleading.

I've spent years working in the mobile industry across Europe. Airtime resellers have always been somewhere between a bit dodgy and full cowboy from a transparency and fairness point of view. I have never had a contract that was not directly with the telco. MVNOs seem to be a lot better than the companies that are straight airtime resellers.
My suggestion for the future.... never enter a long term contract or get a contract phone. Buy your own phone and get either a pay monthly contract with no fixed period or get a PAYG SIM. That way, if you get a poor service you can move whenever you like with minimal hassle and expense.

Vodafone is a paradox, it seems to me.
On one hand, I have encountered some of the most pleasant and helpful customer care staff of any phone company.
On the other, some of the stunts they pull mark them out as the biggest shysters of the phone industry.
The upshot of their shenanigans has usually meant that, in the end, they have given me a deal to resolve the problem that I doubt they make any money from. They gave me a free iPad on one occasion to make the problem go away.

I am interested in you comment on MVNOs. Is their truth in the rumour that their network carriers throttle their bandwidth? I've always found it odd that the network operators facilitate/enable MVNOs to give a better price than their own offerings. It seems an odd business model. My suggestion for the future.... never enter a long term contract or get a contract phone. Personally I saw some strangely low bandwidth on Giffgaff, when others in the same house achieved better with 02 (their carrier).

I had heard similar about giffgaff and as I was recently looking at going sim only did some research. From the above link it seems that Voxi gets the same speeds and coverage as Vodafone.

Our household had four Vodafone contracts a year ago (me, Mrs Limpet and the two teenagers).Today we have no Vodafone contracts.
This company is my benchmark for appalling customer service, with an unbelievable knack for escalating the trivial (in my case a scheduled upgrade) into a complete and utter disaster. I was made to feel at the time like I was the first person ever to be upgrading my phone, so dysfunctionally did they handle the process. If it could go wrong, it did, but to make matters worse, I just couldn't get anyone to actually deal with the problem, or to take ownership of it.
I recall occasions when I wanted to tear what little hair I have left out, as I went round in circles in their automated switchboard, holding for hours, being transferred from pillar to post, being cut off, being lied to (documented on two occasions), speaking with call centre operators who simply don't have a sound enough grasp of the English language to do the job effectively, and often cannot understand, or be understood, and generally making what should have been a nice experience (who doesn't like getting a shiny new phone?) utterly hellish.
Mrs Limpet gets a special rate with them as a work benefit, but we'd actually rather pay full whack elsewhere than ever have to deal with them again.

I’ve been running 3 for the past year on this contract that they’ve offered again. It does exactly what it says. Plugged into a WiFi dongle and runs everything. Due to Netflix/Covid I managed to run up 280GB one month.
Although I understand 3 sometimes has some patchy service, not where I am.
A poor 5g signal can be no better than a 4g one. I can get both in my suburban Leeds house, but neither is faster than about 9mb (EE on a Samsung S20FE).
Annoyingly, we can't get fibre or Virgin in our house, meaning we get a maximum of 17mb copper broadband.
Literally 1.5 miles away the 5g EE delivers >300mb down and 50mb up.
I have an unlimited data and everything else SIM only for less than £30 a month.
It sucks!

I've had the same PAYG sim for atleast 6 years.
£15p/m for unlimited data. I average between 80 -100gb per month but can be way more. Think I've had 1 issue in that time.
They were way ahead of the curve with roaming too and didn't seem to notice when I lived in Austria for a while.
