I have a coupl e of cars, one was off the road last November due to it failing its MOT. I got a letter telling me I had to pay the tax or declare it off road, I got it through its MOT and taxed it on line.
I was playing with one of these apps that check your cars details and to my surprise the car was not taxed. I found the reminder and tried to tax it but it wouldn't have it, I dug out its log book but it would not work, rang DVLA. Apparently my log book is an old one and I got a replacement in 2011, which I don't recall receiving but that is not to say I don't have it (although all my cars paperwork is kept together).
I really don't want to pay the £25 fee for a new log book if mine is playing hide and seek and I will come across it next week, so plan to spend a couple of days looking for it.
Question is what if I get stopped, what will the fine be?

The reminder, even if it was found, is only valid for a certain amount of time. If the OP bought VED online, then it should be 'taxed.' 
It's not unknown for DVLA to make errors. I once declared a motorcycle SORN only to get a letter 2 months later asking for 2 months back VED! It was sorted out with a phone call but that may be harder at the moment.
Did you have a change of registered keeper maybe? This would change the status and the vehicle would need to be re-taxed.

OP you seem to be missing all the obvious checks and instead are diving straight in to try and tax a car you say you have already taxed. Seems a strange way to go about things.
Check the gov vehicle tax checker, not some random app.
You should get a confirmation email when you tax on line, did you?
Has the money been taken from the card that you paid with?

Car tax is £0.00.

All cars in the 'historic class' too (over 40 years old).
But you still have to 'purchase' VED even if it's £0.

Did you check your card to see if any money has been taken.
Check your browser history and check the actual site you used to do the tax
It's taxed £0 because it is disabled rated, it is used to take my 89 year old mother around mostly. Did you check your card to see if any money has been taken.
