Police entry and covid

Afternoon all.

So reading in the paper today about how police were called to a house party flouting covid rules and the police were unable to issue any fines as the culprits simply didn't answer the door.

Are there no powers available to the police to force entry in circumstances such as these? If it was a garden party per say would they legally be allowed to climb fences to gain entry or would they have to either find an open door or have someone open the door to let them in?

You could always wait a few weeks to have your party.

Should save you a lot of bother.

I could be wrong, but I think the police only have specific COVID powers of entry into a dwelling in relation to a 'potentially infectious person'.

Of course the normal powers of entry under PACE are available if relevant.

Most likely used powers of entry under the Licensing Act. Not COVID.

No power to enter a residential dwelling.

So even if I did a bash with 50 people round (not that they'd fit in my house mind...), the feds could knock on my door & I could refuse to answer?? I suppose they could stake out the joint & wait for the guests to depart & issue FPNs outside.....

Have a look for the thread where Scottish Police entered a property up there.
There's a link in it to powers of entry under Covid Regs.
There is a specific power of entry in the legislation for Scotland & Northern Ireland but not for England.
Can't remember what it said about Wales.
