DVLA hasn't taken my money

Toward the end of January my wife's car got a flat tyre, she has another car that was off the road for winter, which she asked me to tax so she could use it, I did this this online setting up direct debit. It was just over a week till the end of the month and it said it would take a payment equalling 2 months tax on the 5th of February. I got a new tyre the next day, my wife used her second car over the weekend then said it can go back off the road for a few more months, so on the last day of January i put it back on SORN, I was a bit worried this might go wrong so considered leaving it, but it's an expensive car to tax so i decided it would be worth it.
I thought i saw a transaction for this go out in early February and i think it was for 1 months tax so thought all was sorted but now i've checked again and it is not there, either it never was or maybe it was reversed, either way I've definitely not paid for January's tax even though i did tax it in January.
Do you think i need to proactively follow this up ? Or can i just leave it now, the direct debit is still there my end so they can take the money if they want to but i suspect that isn't going to happen now.
The car is well off the road and has been since 25th of January.

Have you done the obvious check? I sorned it 2 weeks ago and that is what it shows as online.
It does not really tell me anything.
I have the confirmation saved where it says it is taxed from 1st of January (3 weeks before I taxed it) and you do not need to wait for first payment to be taken to use the vehicle.
Like I have said, I taxed it for a month to use it for a few days, I sorned it at the end of that months, but I haven't paid anything.

Then you have kind of answered your own question, you have an written confirmation saying it is taxed, whether or not they have taken the payment from you yet is their concern. I would forget it and move onIt does not really tell me anything.

Yes but I owe the DVLA some money, I'm happy for them to take it, I'm sort of happier for them to not take it, but on the other hand i feel like i could be getting more than £50 worth of hassle somewhere down the line.
