I'm a tight wad I'll admit so with that out of the way would this be acceptable?

I have a van that's currently in the garage for the MOT.It failed said MOT and I'm so pissed of with the money pit piece of crap I went out and replaced it.Pick new van up this Saturday all being well.
Obviously I've been on the phone to the insurance company trying to insurer the new van from Saturday I want to still keep the existing insurance on the money put piece of crap whilst I sell it.No can do said the insurance ppl,it's one or the other. They recommend temp insurance for existing van (which they don't do)which I thought was good idea, just 2 weeks will do whilst it's fixed and prepped for sale.
Been online and cheapest is £200 for 2 effing weeks. So I've come up with a bright idea that I know you lot are gonna tear me a new one on but gonna put it out there.
What if I take new insurance out on existing van on a monthly arrangement, pay first instalment if need be and cancel in the cool off period once money piece of crap has gone?

Please tell me I'm a genius and this would work.

Thx

Yeah, it's "fine". You just pay for the days used as a % of the premium.

You'll have to stump up a cancellation fee though...

One thing to watch is that if there's a claim usually the entire years premium is due. The chances of this are slimmer than slim but it's worth knowing...

Couldn’t you swap the insurance over to new van and SORN (if you have somewhere to keep it off road) the old one? I cancelled the insurance and SORN’d my Stepfathers old car and still managed to sell it to first person to view.

As mentioned above, cancellation fees can be around £55 with some insurers, but do they apply during the 'cooling off' period?

Do you have a valid NCB to apply to the new policy - or starting from scratch?

Swap insurance to the new van then use Cuvva on the old one,

https://www.cuvva.com/

You can get lay up insurance for cars for a month at a time for about £30 - done this with a merc we where selling, if you want to drive it you just pay the hourly fee ontop of the monthly cover cost, worked out well for us

They are more like £75 now unfortunately.
