Hi Guys,

Can anyone advise ....

I bought an item on Dec 14th , so prior to Brexit, and the money was taken at the time.

It has only just shipped (I knew there would be a delay) and I've been charged import VAT by the courier.

Is this correct, as I would have thought that as it was purchased before 31st Dec it would still fall under the old rules.

Thanks in advance,

Martin

If you were charged EU VAT by the seller, then they should be able to refund this to you. From their point of view, it is now an export and so zero rated.

If it was shipped after Jan 1st then yes you would pay import duty . If you were charged vat in the country of origin then you would need to try and claim this back from the purchaser.
