Lap belts legal in the front?

2008 American import I’m getting ready to register. Front is a row of 3 seats, as is the rear. Rear has 3x 3 point seatbelts. Front has 2x 3 point and a lap belt in the front. It never came with a 3 point either.

Having never seen lap belts in the front seats are they legal on the roads in the U.K.?

lap belts in the front can be legal (my '69 MGB had them - magnetic as well so they would open in an electrical thunderstorm!) equally no belts in the front can be legal (various classic LRs I have had) - however, the circumstances of when and what will vary - not sure about an import, would slightly surprise me as there is a need to update other bits like lighting...

You should be ok, for many years before and even a few years after wearing seat belts became compulsory vans and pick ups with 3 front seats had no centre seat belt or just a lap belt.

Thanks for the replies guys. Will just send it in with a lap belt, if it fails I can remove the centre seat anyway.
