They'll claim they've caught some via the video camera but its only a few by accident. Probably 0.00000001% of total convictions.

Even if they drive more than 3mph over the speed limit they can't catch them. Most uninsured death trap drivers are not registered anyway, so they can go through speed cameras as fast as they like!

This question was asked a number of times on the CSCP forum. The 'standard' answer was along the lines of 'it's not our job to catch them'.

Then why are they called 'safety' camera partnerships. Safety my ass!! So much easier to catch someone speeding and get £60 in an instant!!

Funky,
Ring up Bedfordshire scamfirm, and ask them about KSI's on the A6 out of Luton.
Passed through there the other week speed van on A6, week later no speed cam but a blue sign asking if anyone knows anything about the old man who was run over and killed not 100m from there van.
Which incidently you will not see around there anymore?

I have never been against you, I still think a speed camera is a good thing when used properly. What I have noticed since i've been on here is that they are rarely used properly and with the full safety of road users in mind, they are placed to get cash. I have been reading people's accounts of getting caught speeding and some just make you cringe, like the bloke done for speeding when his wife was screaming in labour (baby, not the party)!!

Spending time with my g/f in her town has made me realise that the way speed enforcement is used is all wrong too. She lives in Spalding (Lincs) and the pedestrianised zone is used as a racetrack by loads of idiots in their plastic pram-handled st cars. There seems to be a cheap and nasty buffoon mod culture appearing here. I often wonder how these stupid small brained idiots are allowed to burn through the centre of town and the outlying roads at stupid speeds, whilst performing stupid crap wheelspins off lights etc. They have great risks of losing control and wouldn't be able to stop in time if a child ran into the road. And you know what, this all happens in the centre of town, near pedestrians, whilst the speed cameras are situated 10 miles away on a straight and very wide bypass!! I wonder where the police are in Spalding??

I still don't condone excessive speeds on the roads, but its more about the manner of the speed than the speed itself. Being a cyclist and having a car whizz past your hip at about 90mph in a 60mph (and it has happened) makes you hate people who want to speed. However, I have noticed now that only the idiot drivers will do this, sensible drivers can still speed but will know when and where to do it.

Also I have noticed that people on here seem to be good and considerate drivers. When I first joined up I thought pistonHeads was full of stupid boy racers, how wrong was I!! Shows you how judging a book by its cover can sometimes give you odd ideas!!

Interesting point you make here. In the recent pointless threads arguing for and against speeding the plight of the little children callously murdered by us speadophiles was brought up again and again.

What ammused me in all that was this:

Most of us who like a good blat were assumed to be doing 50 past schools at 3:30pm, racing through residential streets and drifting round playgrounds. The reality is that motoring enthusiasts get their kicks out of A and B roads well away from the masses where one can, in relative safety and away from kids, enjoy the feelings of cornering, acceleration, precise road positioning and sound judgement.

I'm one of those drivers who rarely exceed 30mph limits in the city and surrounds and am even more aware of the dangers a car poses to a child's misadventure into my path.

The bottom line is this: Berating the likes of us on this site is preaching to the choir. We're all for safety and control when the risk is high. Let us play on the safe roads in peace though!

Back to your point... it seems that the SCPs and their more rabid supporters make this assumption and are so buried in their rhetoric and vitriol they illicit the same in return and both sides fail to see their common ground: stopping a few idiots ruining it for the rest of us

Busy time of year, what with dry roads and good visibility there are more people to send NIPs to.

There's a thought; I wonder if the rise and fall of the number of NIPs follow the same trend as accident rates? After all if speeding is dangerous then more NIPs mean more people are speeding, therefore you would expect (using SCP logic) that accidents would also rise....

Funky, I applaud you. I did think you batted for the speed opposition, but unlike a certain Mr Crowe or whatever pseudonym it's posting under you have taken the time to read the generally good advice on here.

Thanks for being open minded.

I know what you mean about Spalding though

It's nice and light to wear though.. Wildy is encouraging me to cycle more ... she thinks this might stop kittens..

I thought we'd explained all this to her once in words which did not include "und" and "ist"
