EBay - Buyer wanting to return used diagnostic scanner

A fortnight ago i sold an obd diagnostic scanner on Ebay
It was as new and had only been used once to read a code, Posted out using special delivery.
14 days later the buyer gets in touch and says he has incurred a problem with his car because he has used the scanner without experience and has made his car go into limp mode therefore he wants to return it to me.
I've said no as the item isn't faulty and i stated in the listing 'no returns'
He goes on to rant and swear at me by ebay message.
If he opens a case, will i have a leg to stand on with regards ebay?
Seems to me he's probably bought it, diagnosed his problem and now wants to return it for a refund.

Give eBay a call and explain the situation they will put a note on your account in case he opens a dispute.It was as new and had only been used once to read a code, Posted out using special delivery.

Welcome to the world of Ebay. 99% of buyers and sellers are decent, honest people but if you meet an a

Have used ebay off and on for years selling occasional stuff and as long as you appreciate a) you will get significantly more cash for your stuff due to the wider audience and b) that 1% of buyers are arses then youll be fine
In the last year Ive sold approx 100 things for far more than Id have got flogging locally and 1 buyer had remorse and flagged an issue resulting in me being out of pocket paying for his postage there and back. Annoying yes but on balance Im up
If he’s sent an email saying the item is working correctly and it was his inexperience that caused the fault in the car then you should be off the hook.
Someone I know sold a jacket that didn’t fit the buyer because the buyer didn’t understand the sizing. He got an email from the buyer saying as much and eBay backed him up.
Contact customer services and they should confirm the same.

Unfortunately Ebay's "buyer is always right" policy is potentially going to bite you.It was as new and had only been used once to read a code, Posted out using special delivery.

There are a lot of good buyers on Ebay, my selling history shows this - however there are also some really terrible ones and Ebay will always protect them.
All he has to do is raise a "damaged" or "not as described" and almost certainly you'll end up refunding him - very difficult to win as a seller.

There are a lot of good buyers on Ebay, my selling history shows this - however there are also some really terrible ones and Ebay will always protect them.
All he has to do is raise a "damaged" or "not as described" and almost certainly you'll end up refunding him - very difficult to win as a seller.

A handful of times, people have tried to take the mickey, it's never resulted in it costing us money, but a couple of times Ebay themselves have paid out the buyer anyway, as a goodwill gesture.
On the couple of occasions I had trouble with my buyers, Ebay were great. As you say, they refunded me also. I think it helped that there was a good, sensible email trail for them to look at.Then I whacked the buyers involved on the 'Not allowed to buy off me again' list, so I didn't have trouble from them in the future!

More to the point, I can't see any possible way that an OBD reader can cause a problem, leave alone put a car into limp mode.They can tell you codes are stored, and usually let you clear/reset (along with associated lights) them - after which they may recur, or not, but it's nothing to do with the reader.
