Used car warranty - can I cancel?
Discussion
I bought a used car from one of the warehouse car shops. Not something I’d usually do.
Against my better judgement I bought a warranty (they call it a guarantee), paint/fabric protection, and a service plan.
The paint protection was done over a dirty car. They’ve offered to redo some parts but I don’t trust them.
The guarantee has been emailed. Despite the salesman repeatedly saying everything is covered at no further cost to me that’s not the case, and low overall cost & repair rate limits mean that almost any repair will cost me.
So I’m disappointed with myself in the first place for being half-asleep...
But the question is whether I have any recourse for cancelling and getting repaid. The salesman has refused once, then needed to check with his manager and not gotten back to me.
I can use their complaints process of course, but not holding out much hope. And as for making a court claim it could end up as simply caveat emptor and don’t be a patsy next time Rich.

What does the paperwork say and how long ago did you purchase it?
As mentioned above, you likely have 14days to cancel. With regards to the paint protection that has already been applied, if this was done in an unacceptable manner (dirty car) and they're offering to re-do it then I'd say that consistutes the ability to get a refune, whereas if it had been done fine and you tried to change your mind the argument would be that you'd already received the service and all of it's benefits and thus can't refund that element of the charge.

You ignored not just your own (very poor) better judgement, but the judgment of just about everyone who hasn't got a vested interest in selling you these policies.Let us know how long ago you bought it, and we may be able to offer a better idea as to whether you can return/unwind it or not.
...and repeat 100 times "I must never, ever, EVER, buy the rip-off add-ons from a car dealer when buying a car!".

I was looking at an I-Pace and the dealer gave me some interesting 'add on' prices... £1400 for GAP Insurance? I told him I'd be taking out GAP insurance but that it wouldn't be until the car was a year old and it definitely wouldn't be at that rate. He told me to get the best quote I could and he'd try match it - Which I respect, they have to try make the sale and I can't blame them for starting at those prices, given that whilst we were there a nice young woman behind me (maybe 25) bought her boyfriend a new F-Type V8 for cash and just agreed to every price offered.Let us know how long ago you bought it, and we may be able to offer a better idea as to whether you can return/unwind it or not.

For the most part, almost any additional service offered by the dealer should be bought independently or priced up and get them to match it. Should also always check the fine print to see just how many things aren't actually covered.

I thought there was a time limit from when you purchased the car to when you could start gap?For the most part, almost any additional service offered by the dealer should be bought independently or priced up and get them to match it. I did something similar with a guarantee a few years ago and having had time to read it fully I realised it wasn't what I "thought" I was sold, anyway I simply cancelled it under the 14 day cooling off period and it was simple enough. The details for cancelling should be in the warranty book supplied
Thanks all.
The car seems decent, so I don't want to give that back. If I did I'd get refunded on all items, but I'd be without the P/EX vehicle.
So I'll be trying to assert my consumer rights cooling off period, despite the dealer arguing "we don't usually refund these", and the guarantee actually contains a clause to the effect of no refunds. Probably not legal.

Dear Dealer
I bought a car on x and also purchased a warranty for it. Having now read the terms and conditions of the warranty it doesn't reflect what I was told by Mr X, I therefore consider it was mis-sold to me.
As such I wish to reject the warranty and obtain a refund under consumer law
Regards
