NIP - 70 in a 60

Hi,

Received NIP for 70 in a 60, I knew I was caught by a single copper on a bridge with a radar gun.. I spotted him as overtaking a van, up a hill on a 2 lane single carriageway, I recall seeing 68mph on the speedo at the time so I've anticipated this letter to arrive since last week.

I've done a Speed Awareness Course within the last 3 years so what would the likely outcome be?

3 points and £100 fine or 3 points and a Band A fine?

Unless you have a time machine, it wasn't a radar gun.

Another course or fixed penalty (£100/3 points).

Probably best to stay away from Google in these circumstances.

Apologies for the terminology around the device used to capture me. I didn't realise those hand held devices took photo/video evidence but they must do.

2 lanes in your travel direction and 3 lanes total?

I wouldn’t exceed the speed limit without a full view of the road ahead, for the reason you found out.

Use Waze. If the copper had been there for more than a few minutes, you would have had an alert.

Those devices will be laser based, and often do have cameras too.

Police on the dot, me on the X when I spotted the high vis jacket. Annoyingly I'm usually very cautious here, was a lapse in concentration.

Those 2+1 (or a rare 2+2 in your case) single carriageways are always tempting, uphill is always the temptation to overtake cars going 58-ish. Then again the 2+1 are usually 2 lanes uphill, so sometimes the temptation is too inviting, the lane is there for overtaking.

If it was just a handheld camera then chances are there’s no photo or video, but the opinion of the officer that you were speeding, confirmed with a type approved device, can be sufficient for conviction.
