It would be nice if you filled out your Garage, with the current car you drive, just to give those of us on PH a heads up.

The van driver probably reviewed his dashcam footage, decided it showed him in a bad light as well, and thought better of letting the police know there were two easy nicks that day.

Please take this as a lesson about your reactions to external inputs, and a cheap one at that.

Trying to force you into the left lane?
Brake testing?

Honestly, you are as bad as each other. All of the problems stated by you OP could have been easily been resolved by simply pulling in when safe to do so.

It might not sound fair, right etc. but engagement with these brainless tts is just a receipe for disaster.

Flipside he is out of your hair and bothering others.

The brake testing by you is the real escalation point, and a bloody stupid one at that, irrespective of his behaviour.

Chances are though you are in the clear, as most witness dashcam type evidence on the online forms has only 10 days or so to be reported or at least in Kent I believe it is that long.

I just can't believe some people.

Why do they think the road is like their battlefield, like they have their honour to protect. Yes I am talking to you OP, and the Van driver.

If you aren't mentally stable, stay the fk off the road.

Frankly I hope highways cameras caught the both of you and they are going through the motions now. They very well could be. Wouldn't be the first.

You’re very angry. What’s done is done and I’ve admitted to my mistake. And as I said I’m getting help for the mental instability and I shan’t be staying off the road.
I'm frustrated by your lack of accountability for the lack of control of your emotions, yes its fantastic you are getting help and I understand its medical, however if you are in danger of doing this again (Its sounds like you are given its a medical condition) then you shouldn't be on the road endangering peoples lives.

Road rage is a criminal offense for a reason.

These are the only exemptions to the 14 day rule I can find

Exceptions

Notice of intended prosecution is not required where a full or provisional fixed penalty notice has been given or fixed; or if you were knowingly involved in an accident at the time
If the notice of intended prosecution is received late it may still be valid and you should seek advice on this.
There is also an exemption where the police could not with reasonable diligence have ascertained the name and address of the accused in time for service of the summons or notice within the 14 day period, or the accused
Not all offences require a Notice of Intended Prosecution to be served, but both careless / inconsiderate and / or dangerous driving do.

Breathe in, breathe out - let it go.
Spend 2 seconds on that, rather than hours, days, or even months regretting getting involved.

You certainly get a feel for which ones to quote in a reply.

I agree with everything you’re saying. I regret it because it could’ve got someone seriously hurt but luckily it didn’t
I am glad you are getting help regarding your mental health, heck even I am with a CBT therapist (anxiety and self judgement being my main drivers for seeking help).

A number of months ago I would not have said that beyond my own home, colleagues let alone a public forum (also in the spirit of it being mental health awareness week, and men do need to be more open with their mental health and talk more).

Equally I am glad you have reflected on your actions, been open with what went on, I am sorry for being maybe brutal towards you in my original post. Heck, I doubt any of us have not had a moment where the red mist, anger and frustration has resulted in actions we are not proud of.

The that is important irrespective of mental health issues, is don't let them dictate or be driven by the actions of others. By pulling in you might look weak, not taking one for the team etc. But view it from another point of protecting your own mental health, reducing stress and not letting a situation develop. Luck therefore have no part in any future events.

Chances are likely that the van driver always drives or has other issues that result in driving like this, maybe already has or will have stress, high blood pressure etc. Don't let yourself fall into that camp.

If there is one thing I will say breathe in for 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds, release it for 5 seconds and repeat a few times and you will find that it is much clearer and calmer. Some of the best advice my CBT therapist has given me, alongside headspace (feeling overwhelmed etc.)

Years ago someone wise wrote on this forum "Don't let a deranged stranger become a big part of the rest of your life" or words to that effect. I remind myself of it whenever I feel the red mist descending.

For context:

I ended up getting in a road rage incident with a van on the M4 heading from Wales to England, he came up right behind me doing nearing triple digits (guessing based on how quick he appeared behind me) I was doing 70. He was trying to force me into the left lane and I got angry at this. Tapped my brakes, he overtook me and slammed on his brakes causing me to go near enough sideways on the motorway. Thankfully didn’t crash but let my anger take over and we ended up doing a considerable speed trying to cause the other to back down. Neither of us did. I stopped at a service station to do a piss and he followed me there, I confronted him and he said he was going to call the police. We argued but nothing was resolved and I left. As I was driving out he was on the phone to the police. He supposedly had me on camera driving dangerously, he showed me his phone and he had some type of picture or video of my car but I didn’t see exactly what I was doing in it. He then took a picture of me and my car while stopped. It’s been 29 days since the incident and I’ve not heard anything. The car is a motability car which I had for about 3 months at that point. According to the motability website the recipient of the car is the registered keeper so the NIP, if there was one, would’ve been sent directly to me. I’m thinking I’m in the clear?

Yes I know my driving sounds and was atrocious in that moment and I deserved to get in trouble for it but I’d rather not. Just looking for opinions on whether I’m in the clear

Just to provide some reason as to why this happened, although not an excuse just an explanation, I have emotionally unstable personality disorder as well as autism and I’m working with a therapist to help me learn emotional regulation. I only drive when I need to
