I want to get some new number plates for my car but just been having a look on the DVLA’s web site
The British Standard also requires that a number plate must be marked with the following information: -

The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d)

The name, trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier. (The company who actually make the number plate.)

The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean a company whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.)
I just want legal numbers/letters on a legal background. Do I really need the manufacturer and supplyer on the plate, can I be fined for not having them on the plate.

Cheers

As far as I understand, UK suppliers of plates have to include that information so that non-compliant plates can be traced back to them.

In Ireland, however... www.fancyplates.com

I had a look at that site and they can produce the plates I want but I don’t want to be stopped by the police and fined because they don’t comply with the British Standard

Loads of people on here have fancyplates.com plates, I think. The plates on my Mini don't comply - because they're too old. Can't see any plod getting too worked up about it to be honest.

Mrs M was pulled up by plod as her "03" car had "101% blonde" instead of the garage name at the bottom. The rest of the plate was legal (Charles Wright font, spacing etc)

Obviously crimes are 101% solved in our area, and police resources are best used to assist the public against such crimes....

I believe it is only an offence to SELL plates missing the maker's name. Also any plates which aren't destined for public sale don't need them, so fleets etc. are exempt.
