On 1st August, 2005 the MV (Test)(Amendment) Regs 2005
come into force and which increases the cost of an MOT to 46pounds 15 pence and increase of over 4% for motor cars.

Get in now and save yourself a pint if current one expires in August.

Alternatively, coming from the Leo's wife school of saving....go out and buy a new car, thereby saving the cost of 3 MOTs.

Have you put your car in for a test of late?

They're cheaper than that if you buy a book of them.

not for 10 months

it cost £35 then, but I was lazy and got the garage man to take it to the MOT station and back so I assumed i'd paid extra...and i'm sure I recall a sign on westgate road in newcastle advertising MOT's for £25 outside a garage

so how much is an MOT then?

I think the official price is £39.00 but some garages do them at £25.00 as a special offer kind of thing.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

As long as the fee is NOT above that listed by VOSA the testing station can charge what they like for the test.

Now don't expect it to be all rosy down at your local mot station either, disorganised choas is the order of the day. Of course the Governments latest computerisation system is working according to plan

System failures followed by no backup system means many MOT bays are out of business several days of the week. Expect the whole system to disintegrate fairly soon.

Crappy cars will also suffer due to fairly strict emission regs, that cant be fuddled anymore.

I always wonder if the £25 mot places find "extra stuff" wrong, rather than just passing a borderline case??

I had the Jag done at the beginning of June for £30, depends on whether you opt for "no retest fee within 14 days" or "pay again if it fails". If you know your car is sound, go for the cheaper option.

I think this works if you stand over them while they carry out the MOT. However leave it with them, or worse still get your missus to take it in, and there are numerous reports of them minor things that they replaced, ie headlight bulb, £15 etc (but they can't find the old bulb).
