Just received a fine from Italy. 95kph in a 90kph limit.

It’s almost 11 months since the date. No evidence such as photo proof presented.

Anyone else dealt with similar, and failed to pay? What do they do, other than send increased fines?

Anyone experienced this situation?

Can’t offer advice but interested to hear how much they’re asking?

I always ignore Italian ones. They do increase the longer you leave it though. French ones are remarkably easy to pay online, not that that is any use to you.

The Cross Border Enforcement Directive came to an end with Brexit. I reckon that means they can send their letters, but have to way to enforce. You may wish to check this with a lawyer though.

78 euros for 5km over.

I’m worried it’s the first if several. I was on a motorway near Florence, saw the speed limit for some sweeping corners but thought it was for high sided vehicles, because the limit was so low. Obviously the motorway was pretty empty as it was during COVID.

On the way back on the same stretch realised there were cameras concealed away from the motorway in kind of revetment features.

My worry is this is the lowest speed one, by a long shot. Wonder what will appear in the post next week. Pretty sure I went past some of them at over 140h. Maybe I’ve been lucky..... but I’m never lucky.

If you never go back to Italy, what does it matter?

I was thinking this are they going to want to deport you for a speeding ticket

More likely impound the car as collateral until you pay the fine?

I had a speeding fine sent through from Italy 10-11 years ago.

I ‘forgot’ to reply to them and haven’t heard anything else from them since.

14% of Mail gets lost in the post. Proof of postage is not proof of receipt.

In 2008 I set an overhead gantry camera off on the way to Ancona ferry port in my FILs new Audi R8 ( late as usual ). Saw it flash and looked down to see an indicated 165 mph. Shat myself and crept into the ferry port expecting to be arrested and have the car impounded any second. Hid behind a long queue of lorries waiting to board, and as soon as boarding began, elbowed my way on and hit the bar to calm down.

I had to bring the same car back ( from Crete ) through Italy using the same port about 18 months later. Never heard a thing. I've heard the game moved on for a while and they would pursue you, but I would have thought Brexit would have put paid to that?

If you set off any kind of fixed camera off in France / Italy in 2008, there was no need to worry whatsoever. If you'd have caught at 165MPH by police, it would have been a different story.

It's no wonder scams work so well.

Zero evidence, just a "demand" for payment 11 months later!

File in the bin.

I’ve often wondered what would happen in such circumstances if you were, (for example), just inside of France and made a dash for the Italian border?

Was radar gunned 15 minutes after leaving the channel tunnel by a French Policeman sitting in a layby on the motorway southbound, just before a toll booth.

I slowed down, let him catch me up (an ancient Citroen van) and we both went through the barrier.

Couldn't have been more polite and charming. Interested in the car, my number plate and had a good smattering of English. I asked for proof and he showed me the radar gun. He had a table of fines, and as I was caught doing 170KPH, he charged me 90 Euros.

In the end, I was grateful!
