Morning all ...
Bit of a strange one last night, something I have never seen.
6pm Sat evening, single carriageway A road, dead straight, no turnings. Mini at the front doing maybe 50 ish, then a Jag XF, then me, then a estate car of some description, looked fairly new, blend in etc. All spaced out sensibly.
Small gap opens, Jag goes for it big time & leaves us all rapidly, no reaction from any of us, i could have squeezed through but left it.
Another mile or two, large gap coming & I opened the taps, didn't look at speedo ;-)
this is where it gets weird ...... the estate follows me through (but I left him then backed off), catches me rapidly with lights flashing on a roof bar (99% sure these are white flashing lighs, not blue). I think "fookit" & ease off to 50 to see if he wants me to pull over (nowhere safe) - he has opprtunity to pass, wave me over but just sits there with me looking at him in the mirror.
1 mile on at a roundabout, I head into town to pull over safely but he turns left onto the A road, ignoring me ???? As he turns left, I see his lights are flashing red on the back of the light bar.
What was it ??? I'm guessing not plod & wasn't aware of any emergency service using whites - seems very strange behaviour unless he thought he would have some fun shaking my tree ... if that was the case, he won the game.

Have seen similar before, was on a dual carriageway, inside lane, a car went past me in the outside lane at a fair rate of knots, pulls in front of me and slows quite quickly. At the same time another car passes me and him, pulls in front of him and slows.. in turns I can see a "POLICE SLOW" sign appear in its rear window, stays there for a minute or two, switches the sign off off and gradually moves on.
I have ‘opened the taps’ to pass a line of cars in a similar fashion when police cars were present. As long as the overtake was safe, and clearly signed to everyone, then to me the police have never minded a bit of ‘over speed’ as long as the overtake was sensible and the better option.

Check with local plod to see if it was a genuine cop car, or a t
t with some flashing lights.
Used to see idiots pretending to be cops all the time when I commuted long distance.
Left and right alternate flashing headlight kits are hard to detect in a car.
You can buy the rear display boxes but they are easier to see.

Thanks for all your replies, still no idea what it was.
If it was plod giving me a warning, why not pass when I eased up & moved over, he could have then shown me the red flashers. Obviously not on a shout as he had opportunity to pass me, and when we went our separate ways, he didn't look as if he was in a major hurry.

All new traffic cars have white LED's they've replaced flashing headlamps. They're normally used in conjunction with the blues however.

Cheers for that Nickyboy. The whites on one of those cars does look similar but this was not a liveried traffic car. Completely plain, no markings, just the roof bar showing whites ??https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQc-haIJXSM
