Personal Plate query - gone missing?

I'm trying to find two personal registrations in the hope that they are for sale. One was owned by my dad but sold when he gave up driving and the other is one I owned but sold on about a decade ago. Both used to appear on the Mot check about a year ago, mine on a Jaguar with dad's on a Mercedes, but now they don't show up correctly. Dad's one now shows as being back on his written-off Berlingo that was scrapped without it (back on it's original plate) and mine has just vanished. I've tried searching the selling sites for both in case they are available but no joy.

I'm more interested in the one my dad used to have, A3 MND. Is there a way to find out it's fate or even try to get it back? I'm guessing it's on retention but is there a way of finding out?

The Gov.UK site for DVLA details has that plate on a white 18 plate Mercedes that is showing as taxed until end of October '21,being an 18 plate this explains why it isn't shwoing on the MOT site (yet)

Realistically, no, beyond the usual tools that technically you should only be using on plates that you own.

You can only find out who its registered to if you're a) Police and have access to PNC (and a reason to search for it) or b) have been in an accident with someone that has that VRM.

As I thought, no way to trace it bar hoping I see the car around and leaving a note/speaking to the driver. Thanks anyway!
