79 in a 70, SAC?

Partner receives NIP for 79 in 70. No other previous offences nor points. Just wondering what the odds on a SAC are?

As I understand they should be fine for a SAC; as long as they've not attended a SAC in the last three years, own up to being the driver within a certain time limit (42 days I believe? maybe check that) and their speed is within the threshold for SAC which is the speed limit + 10% + 9mph, so 86mph.

Pretty much all criteria for a SAC. Slightly annoying, as presumably enforcement starts at 79, but then again it's happened and she will have to take it on the chin. First one in 9 years.

Unlucky as it seems a true 79mph is when they start to issue tickets. I tend to drive at a cruise control 78 when on the m/way which seems to work ok.

Should be good for an SAC but you might not want to insure with Admiral as they ask if you’ve attended a course.

My wife got caught for 79 on a motorway and wasn’t offered a SAC. No previous points either.

I guess we will have to now wait and see, I assume they are under no obligation to offer one as an alternative.

I know "brake" members will be along soon to say she should be hung, drawn and quartered, but really, this is nonsense.

My thoughts exactly really. I'll be honest, I was in the car with her and we saw the van, glanced at the speedometer for an indicated 80 mph or so. Wasn't really concerned at that. I do wonder if seeing it a little late and in reality she may have slowed from an indicated 85 or so. Which is very odd as she rarely pushes beyond 80 (evidenced by lack of NIPs over the course of 9 years.)

Far from the crime of the century, but I guess North Yorkshire constabulary weren't happy with it.

A few years ago had to phone admiral to advise I had been on a course, nice lady said it will make no difference to the cost, they just like to know. Not sure if its the same now.

I got an SAC for 84 last year, so I can't see how they can offer anything else for 79..........

I don't think they're offered everywhere. Maybe some places are running them at reduced capacity (even the online ones) so are pushing more through to fixed penalty.

I think it depends on which police area you’re caught in. They have different policies.

On the contrary, they'd be very happy. Likely it is more fodder for a speed awareness course, keeping all the ex-cops in beer money.

It's pretty binary - 78MPH is OK, action starts at 79..

Say no more! I got caught with my pants down at 89 a couple of years ago on the A168. The literature I had implied they will offer a speed awareness course for 79-86 - they generate revenue from commission doing that rather than the fine going to the treasury. NYP is quite proud of this fact.
