Do I need to ruch to do the probate, can I pay out money before it is completed, the only ones to inherited is me and sis.

Do I need to rush to reregister the house

Anyone with useful advice please post on anything.

Lot to be said for using a solicitor but making sure you do the legwork yourself. You really don't need to pay someone a fat hourly fee to go through old papers, transfer the utilities into new names etc. In other words only pay someone to do the bits you can't do yourself.

You can do it yourself, but don't make assumptions ! Unless its really simple you might miss out something that either leaves you liable or may even save you/the estate money

Don't assume that you have valued the estate properly, that you have all the financial data ( debts paid) or that you inherit

You are probably right - but the probate process is there to check and confirm this.

You ( if you are the executor ) shouldn't be dividing anything up without it ( and though its been a few years since i last did it - the land registry will need probate before property is transferred )

I once spent a just 3 hours in the London Probate office - two separate parties found out that their father had been married and not to their mother - and that the assets weren't going to them.
