Unadopted private street

Afternoon all,

I know this topic has been done here before but that was more specifically on enforcement of tickets etc. I actually front 'my' road and want to refresh some existing road markings. Specifically over my drive entrance and parking bays. I also want to add a yellow hatching opposite my drive way to encourage cars not to make my driveway exit/entrance a 300 point turn. I realise I cannot enforce anything and my intention is to gently suggest. Question is am I allowed to paint my own markings? My thinking is as its unadopted and private I can do it without falling foul of the law?

Appreciate any feedback if I am wrong.

Do you own that part of the road or do you only have rights to access?

My complete guess is that if you actually own it you can do what you like but if you only have right of access then you can't.
