A14 new bypass: are the cameras working?

WB on the new bypass, Waze alerted there was a camera, I saw it on the left and a little yellow sign below with 'Camera not in use'. I, stupidly, decided not to ease up. Then there was a flash.
Anyone know if these are wired up to the NIP printer? (To ease my stewing for the next 14 days).

They have been switching them on since October last year. There are a couple along there that still have the "camera not in use" signs next to them. I’m not sure they have the overhead smart motorway type signs working as they seem to be a bit random; I suspected that was the reason for the delay in activating them.
For the sake of 200m I tend to adjust speed accordingly as I figure it isn’t worth the risk, but I’ve seen plenty of people maintain a very generous 70 through there without them going off and as a local I’m not aware of anyone being caught by those particular ones. It can be quite hard to make progress along that stretch as the lane discipline seems particularly bad since the road reopened so if you do receive one save it as a certificate of achievement.
Given that they might have just switched them on I’m afraid it’s an arse clenching 14 day wait…

I asked Highways agency a few weeks ago about them and this is their response,
Hi, I don't have a confirmed date for it yet but we were waiting on Home Office approval, which was delayed due to staff being redistributed to deal with COVID-19. We've got that approval now so shouldn't be too long now.

It seems strange that on a section of road recently designed to the latest standards they feel the need to install safety cameras. Especialy as the nasty bit is the crossover section where it merges with A1 traffic, similar to the old M11 North A14 junction removed as a part of the same project.

Cameras become more important when the road is of high standard. Drivers are tempted to drive safely over the limit. Makes financial sense

Around a year ago (maybe more), the new junction from the A1 onto the A14 had just been completed and the signs about cameras being inoperative were correct. It was around half past three in the morning, coming back from Sheffield heading for Essex. Was on the A1, aiming for the A14 and M11 after.
Clear 4-lane road, newly surfaced and smooth. Lets just say my average speed was higher than 70mph. Would have been in a heap of trouble if I'd been caught at the time.
Got a bit complacent and hit a dip in the road which wouldn't have been a problem if I was travelling at 70mph. As I was doing a bit more than that, coming out of the dip extended the front suspension and allowed a bit of lift under the front of the car. It all went light, I recall moving the steering wheel left to right - around 30 degrees each way and it made not a touch of difference. Nearest thing to it I've experienced is having a tank-slapper on a bike.

The new interchange with the A1 is a dreadful piece of road design, as is where the A428 joins the A14. It's not quite as bad going Westbound, but the entire junction there is a mess considering the amount they must have spent on it. The signs say the Average speed cameras continue past Milton, Histon & Cambridge but they don't - there's none there so you can crack on.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
