Speeding/Traffic officers

Driving to meadowhall today and passed a traffic officer in his land rover parked up, the missus said he'll have a speed gun as shes watched enough traffic cops is this right?I thought they were just traffic related or maybe come after you if you flew by?

Also a few other queries.

Can you get caught on the opposite side of the road with barriers and all sorts in the way?

To be done by undercover/police do you have to be physically handed a ticket/stopped?

I'm not a speeding lunatic these are just innocent queries.

1. If you mean a National Highways Traffic Officer (HATO, as was) then no, they have no jurisdiction over speeding (yet). They can, and will, however, report any acts of dangerous stupidity to the relevant force.

2. Possible but very unlikely from a parked police car on a motorway.

3. No, it can arrive as an early birthday present at any time within 14 days after the offence.

I mean, it’s surely for the minister responsible to decide if they are going to spend public money in that way? Unless that guy is the minister or their SPAD, not sure… they… are deciding?

Driving to Meadowhall, it appears to be east side of the country, I'm on the west side.

Highways officers can't and do not enforce traffic laws. They can report driving offences to the Police the same as anyone else can but they're not authorised to enforce and prosecute.
