Online Speed Awareness Course
Discussion
I did one last week. Was done in 2hr 30 compared to the 4 hour classroom ones I’ve done before so that was good.
The trainer checks your ID individually first before putting everyone in the meeting together. Webcam must be kept on and yes it’s fairly interactive with a few questions and answers now and again. Our guy was fairly light hearted and cracking jokes half the time so was a chilled atmosphere.
Tip for anyone reading this who needs to book one at some point, when you’re on the map picking a course make sure you go as far north as possible as that’s where they are generally cheapest. I’m from Kent and all the ones down here were £90+ so I booked one in the Cleveland and Durham area for £73. Always helps to save a few quid.
Cheaper and quicker than a classroom one and you don’t need to leave the house

I can’t remember having a choice, my ticket was from humberside and had to be done in Humberside, despite being on Teams, and I live in North Yorkshire police area The trainer checks your ID individually first before putting everyone in the meeting together. I did exactly the same - search for the cheapest - I also did C&D - larger bloke with a bald head hosted - he was pretty light hearted, knew everyone was there as they had to be rather than wanted to be. But yeah webcam had to be on. Didn't stop one bloke completing the entire course laid on his bed, holding his phone above him, and another bloke sitting and chain smoking his way through the entire session... not entirely sure they were legal smokes either...

Ah interesting, maybe they’ve changed it recently then since yours was a year ago. That’s why I thought I’d mention it, may not cross peoples mind to check further afield and get it cheaper where possible. When we were introducing ourselves and 2 of us said we were from Kent/London the trainer joked and said the reason we chose that course was because it was cheaper, he said not many people realise you can do that

At a time we can all fly, go to the pub etc they still persist with online meetings. I guess it makes them even more money as it saves the cost of the facility.
Just goes to show people will literally moan about anything when it comes to being anti-authority.Why on Earth would you rather have to drive somewhere to attend something, taking the day off work or whatever, when you can just do it online?

I paid £80 in 2012,but £70 earlier this year for an online course, maybe they are reducing charges in some areas as now there is no facility involved?BTW ive got a mate whos not computer literate, never used one in his life, has no internet connection at home and is worried that if he gets caught speeding he will be unfairly left with no option but to pay the fixed penalty and take the points,or would they allow him to have me sitting in with him on my laptop and me do the handwork etc?
Any ideas?

Maybe he could try learning the kind of normal everyday life skills that are expected in 2021?BTW ive got a mate whos not computer literate, never used one in his life, has no internet connection at home and is worried that if he gets caught speeding he will be unfairly left with no option but to pay the fixed penalty and take the points,or would they allow him to have me sitting in with him on my laptop and me do the handwork etc?
