We recently had a porcelain patio laid by a local company that has a couple of major issues, namely a lack of fall creating something resembling an Olympic swimming pool when it rains and a stark mismatch in tile batches.

The company are refusing to rectify the issues so I was curious as to what my next steps are in getting this sorted? My rough estimate is probably £3-5k in remedial works to fix.

What design parameters did you agree to when specifying? Is it in writing?

I spent two summers as a landscape gardener in my youth, and it’s fairly given that the patios SHOULD have a slight run off built in.

I cannot think of a reason why it couldn’t be done on a tiled outdoor area.

No design parameters about any fall are in writing.

To be honest I wouldn't have thought you would NEED to specify that there should be a fall of X%. Surely they should know that already!

That would be my view, but there are some incompetent ‘professionals’ around.

Right, and it's even just a case of no fall, it's basically a giant bowl.

I was thinking of getting another company or two out to put the issues in writing with a quote to rectify. If the original landscaper still doesn't play ball is the next step small claims?

How would you proceed in a similar situation?

OP have you paid the original landscaper in full?
