Making prohibited moves in standstill traffic

I've been stuck in standstill traffic a couple of times in two days
Both times related to queues for fuel
Yesterday I was stuck at a traffic light. It went green three times but no movement at all. I did a U turn on a yellow box where there's a white arrow in blue circle so I am obligated to go straight. But obvs couldn't because of standstill traffic
If I get a ticket, would standstill traffic and lights changing three times be grounds for appeal?
Similar again this morning. Wanted to turn right at lights but no movement for two changes of lights. I went forward and did U turn in yellow box and took a different route
Second time there was no white arrow in blue circle so I'm less nervous
But could really do without a ticket for yesterday

Not in law, but you can always try.
Your two options to get away from the junction legally aside from waiting would have been to either summon a uniformed police officer to direct you to move through the junction contrary to the blue arrow, or else to reverse and/or do a U-turn prior to crossing the stop line.

According to the letter of the law you’re supposed to wait. There’s no exception for “I’ve had enough of this”. Your inconvenience and how long you have to sit in traffic for is irrelevant. Everyone else was in the same boat and didn’t resort to breaking the law.

I suppose it’s faintly possible that someone got you on dashcam doing it, and may be inclined to report it, but I’d be surprised if you heard anything more about it.
