Andy Burnham accepts latest damning report into GMP - but says ‘pingdemic’ partly to blame
Buried the last report which was due out before the elections earlier this year, amd now partly blaiming the "pingdemic".
I'm guessing there'll be other forces in dire straits as well up and down the UK, but for the 1st and 2nd largest forces in England to be in this state is a pretty sorry state of affairs.

I don't doubt that money is an issue overall but these recent police failings are clearly just a result of police misconduct and poor management.There seems to be a reluctance to deal with issues of a disciplinary nature. It reminds me of the Jimmy Saville turn a blind eye mentality.
Surely those with responsibility to act effectively to staff behaviour problems are not doing so. It is not about funding. It is a symptom of culture failings and a reluctance to act effectively.
If a person comes in for scrutiny for their behaviour then why is it not acted on properly?
Who oversees the disciplinary structure and asks questions about the decisions and lack of action?
This is the basic underlying problem.
This often happens in many Private Sector businesses too, not just Public Sector. Bullying is even an accusation in politics. Bercow and Patel have been under scrutiny recently. What outcome?

The Spycop case was between November 2003 and February 2005. Wayne Couzens joined the police in 2005.
I'm not really sure how either of these can be blamed on funding cuts or even the current Government.

it is quite mental TBH. Do we mistrust Doctors (Shipman), lorry drivers (Sutcliffe), labourers (West) and so on and so on. There are a lot of coppers I suspect it stands to reason there should be some bad 'uns - why do we now get to the point where we're saying that we shouldn't trust any coppers?

I see what you mean, but there is a real issue in the quality of the response and advice issued by the Met in the past couple of days. They have had months to come up with something better than sympathy, ‘lessons will be learned’, and ‘call 999 if an officer wants to arrest you’. CzechItOut said:

I was replying to swervin mervin and forgot to quote his post about GMP. But it stands for most police issues in the last ten years. Wayne Couzens joined the police in 2005.
