Insurance think car is 4motion when 2wd

I'm trying to insure a new Cupra Leon hatchback 300 2wd, but every comparison site and even current insurers only list the 245bhp model and a 300bhp '4motion' for the hatchback but I know its not 4motion (4wd), Admiral does list correctly as 2wd but I don't really want the hassle of moving to them if I can avoid it. Do I just need to make sure the car description on the registration doc matches what the insurance company lists the car as to be covered correctly? I was going to ask the dealer what the registration doc would say and if it would include '4motion', I just don't want the risk of having to make a claim for them to use this as a reason to not pay out.

An insurance company will not refuse to pay out because you're insuring a Cupra Leon 300bhp 2WD as a Cupra Leon 300bhp 4WD. If you were insuring a Lamborghini Urus as a Dacia Duster, then they might.

Have you tried speaking to them ?

I've always corrected it when the exact model doesn't show - might also change your quote.

Hastings refused to acknowledge my Honda Prelude was a 2-door coupe, instead claiming it was a 4-door saloon. This was after they'd insured me for a year and I was looking for a renewal quote which they now wouldn't give. They didn't try and cancel my insurance or be a dick about it apart from not giving me a renewal quote but if I were you I'd ring up each insurer you want a quote from and give them the correct details just to make sure everything's A1. Imagine trying to own a nice car haha.

Yeah rang and explained it to my current insurers, they did come back with a quote but it was double what they quoted on the 4wd / 310 hatchback model that does not exist and double what Admiral quoted who are the only ones who do list it correctly as 2wd / 296. I thought may be the registration doc would list it as 4motion even though it not and I would be fine. I will probably just have to go with Admiral.

Rather than enter your registration number to find the car, have you just tried entering the car details manually?

I’ve done this many times when I’ve purchased a new car, they usually haven’t even gone on the system until a few weeks after I get the car. Usually works OK for me.

I’ve had a similar issue with my Volvo - it’s an S60 R Design but some insurers only see it as S60 R Design Premium which it isn’t. I spoke to Esure about it years ago and it didn’t worry them, they just insured it as the ‘Premium’ model. I haven’t had that problem lately

Ring them up, I got a covering letter from Admiral to cover my A6 Black edition with Tech pack as a standard S line A6.

I’ve had similar issues in the past all resolved with a phone call. Only difficulty is getting through! Be prepared for a long weight.

compare the market lists cupra dsg non 4wd.

I couldnt see it on compare the market, if I put in Cupra >Leon>petrol>70/71 it lists VZ2 and VZ3, either a 2.0T which is the 245bhp petrol or 2.0T 4motion which they seem to think is the 300bhp one. There are a couple of the 2wd 300 for sale on Autotrader if I put there reg numbers and 'find car' they come up as 4motion. Probably just going accept they think it's 4motion.
