Is this an ANPR or a Scamera van?

Was driving on A62 (Leeds) and saw this van over the bridge:

It almost caused a calamity with the way how people suddenly breaked from 70s to almost 30s!

I managed to pass this same van on this very bridge and wondered if it was a safety camera van at all? To note this officer seems to be holding a gun of some sort, so wondered if they were just covering the traffic coming towards them?

I believe those vans are what they use when they're "looking for someone".

I suspect the equipment inside will include ANPR, high resolution cameras to identify vehicle occupants and possibly some electronics to sniff out mobile phones.

I'd definitely fault the drivers primarily but the opportunity arose because of the vans positioning just after the bend. Imo they have to account for dopey drivers who break thinking as if they will get a NIC for just being on the road!

Anyone panic breaking upon seeing a police van because they're too stupid to realise how fast they are, should or shouldn't be going isn't the dopey one? Righty ho then.

As I said earlier, what a crazy concept someone should take some form of responsibility!

It doesn't matter what they're doing, if someone's slamming their brakes on whilst travelling down the motorway because of a van parked on a bridge then they're the problem.

Rubbish. We've heard about scammers on bridges shooting fish in a barrel. We know they like the 'easy pickings'. It's hardly surprising some people panic and hit the brakes when they see what could be one.

I could almost agree with that. My take is that before the 'speed kills' mantra peope didn't panic brake if they saw a liveried van on a bridge. Now they expect to be targeted.

Combine that with dumbing down on other aspects of drivng we have MLM's and car's loaded with info/tainment.

The balance has been completely skewed to speed enforcement and encouraging 'good drivng' has been dropped. Instead of penalty points for poor driving reward points could be offered for improved driving, extra courses etc.
