Good afternoon all,
I got a call from my uncle who is largely PC illiterate to send a driving license check to insurance.
Upon doing so I told him about his 9 points from June 2019. He was very shocked to learn this is the case and is absolutely sure he hasnt had any correspondence or paid any associated fines. Who do we contact to query what it is and what it is in relation to?

Yes driving license and details all correct, he has lived at the same address for the last 20 years.
The car V5 etc all registered to the same address.
Our first thoughts is it must be a glitch/error but before ruling it out we wanted to find out what the offence was in relation to.

OP something obviously amiss here, points could have been put on your Uncles licence in error, it does happen occasionally if he has the same or similar name as the culprit. they would have no way of knowing who the driver was at the time of the offence if your uncle had not replied to a NIP, so Quite possibly an admin error.I got a call from my uncle who is largely PC illiterate to send a driving license check to insurance.

You need to contact the DVLA, not so easy at the moment though
Or of course your Uncle could be spinning you one

OP can you post a link to the check service you used. For a proper full DVLA licence check, apart from the obvious licence number and post code you will also need an NI number

If fines are outstanding then I would expect bailiffs to have been instructed.

Quick update for anyone thats curious. Spoken to the court, they have revealed the convictions are for someone with same surname and DOB but totally different address and first name.
Have to book appt with court to resolve it, what a a faff.
in the meantime, my uncle will have to pay the higher insurance premium related to the points even though it was an admin error elsewhere

OP, what an absolute PITA but at least you got to the bottom of it. Also a complete PITA for your uncle having to pay an inflated premium for someone else's admin error.Have to book appt with court to resolve it, what a a faff.

I had my NCB removed once (for nine months) after I was accused of being involved in an accident.Edited by Andy OH on Tuesday 19th October 12:19
Once it was investigated and sorted my NCB was reinstated and I was refunded the extra money it had cost me at insurance renewal time.
I'd imagine it'd be the same in this case.

Unfortunately you will have spoken to admin phone bod without a clue of how the process actually works. I would ask to speak to a supervisor who at least may have some knowledge. Your uncle does not have any points, the fact that someone has attached them to his licence in error does not mean he has points even temporarily. I would ask what actually made you contact in them in the first place Have to book appt with court to resolve it, what a a faff.
