In The Herald on Friday there was a small article about new speed detection equipment accurate at up to a mile. It advised that 4 forces were taking delivery including Strathclyde and that the equipment had been developed especially for Scotland's speed detection laws. What's different about speed detection in Scotland to the rest of the UK?

Does that mean the Police are admitting that they no longer bother with "prior opinion..." ?
If so, for any caught, there will be "no case to answer".
The offence is detected by the Police Officer and then corroborated by the measuring equipment.

There really is no such thing as a "speed detection law" Trevor.
What the article probably refers to is that in Scotland there has to be corroboration between two officers or one officer and another witness to gain a prosecution; whereas in England the courts have been accepting the word of one officer and an equipment readout.
This to me is not legal, but it's being done on a daily basis in England.
