uk power of attorney or deputyship

Our son (16) is rapidly heading for the age that we need to determine the above - PoA is fixed at stage one but requires a cognoscente decision, deputyship is expensive and an annual event. Is there anyone here that can advise? Are there groups that give advice?

Son is statemented and under EHCP and is clearly not able to make these decisions but that points to deputyship but we are concerned that that means significant costs.

If we need to pay then that's fine but we don't want go down a route that involves annual stress for son or mum.

I’ve just sent my mum a text as she’s got deputyship for my brother. I’ll update once she replies. Might be tomorrow now.

Do they want finance and property or health and wellbeing or both?

If they want health and wellbeing it's better if they don't use a solicitor. The court of protection told me that but also there's been less than 1000 issued in the last 15 years so if a solicitor says they're experienced in it they can't be!

She’s said that if you want you can have a look at my brothers application and see if that helps .

Except that one firm might have made the bulk of the applications...................
