I know they are under the kosh, but this one is weird.
Changed address about 5 months ago, waited a bit to change licence as it was out of date in September.
Sent it all off, then nothing for weeks, tried to apply for a new one, nothing, sent old one back cut up, nothing.
Now I dont exist if I try to apply.
And I get the fatal message transaction completed no licence sent
What on earth am I supposed to do, there is literally no chance to get through to them they dont even keep you on hold it is just ring back or email and they never reply.

I have an issue with missing V5's (sent 5 in one envelope in August and only received one back). I used the "Webchat" option yesterday and after talking to a "Bot" initially was put through quickly to an advisor. Hasn't resolved anything yet but felt like a good start. Maybe try this route and see how you get on?

Do people really send back the cut up halves of their old licences to the DVLA? Is there some poor minion sitting deep in the bowels of the building opening envelopes and tipping out bisected plastic onto a desk, checking each one against a big scroll on which is inscribed the names of all those who have been issued a new licence?
I cut my last one in half, looked at it, and then thought that’s ridiculous. So it stayed there, I think still lurking in my study.

I just did my renewal on line and they quote 2 weeks to get the new one through the post.
I ticked the box saying that I would cut the old one up and send it back but I'd like to hear if peeps actually do this? I can't believe that it is someone's job to match up cut up expired licences with the new applications to see who has complied.

When a re-newed licence arrives the letter from the DVLA actually says with typical ambiguity, "Not sure what to do with your old licence? Cut in half then send it to DVLA Swansea SA99 1ZW".
It clearly does not state that you MUST send it back.
More interestingly my partners licence was due to expire at the end of November and she has never received a reminder. As she is under 70, has no medical conditions and holds a current passport, I went on-line and re-newed it for her. The replacement licence arrived within a week!

Given that most people never look at their licence, I suspect there must a huge amount of people driving with an expired licence.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the DVLA is not fit for purpose. Despite the Chief Executive being given a grilling by MP's it is not getting any better. I am surprised that general and motoring media are not ripping them apart.
It clearly does not state that you MUST send it back.

It's also worth checking that you have the same entitlements on the replacement licence as the old licence. There are numerous horror stories of people suddenly finding out that the DVLA have deleted things like the motorbike or HGV entitlements, and since the DVLA never make any mistakes ever, you then have to retake the test. This has happened to 20 year HGV drivers and also Police motorcycle riders, unless you can provide the original pass certificate, the DVLA are not interested.LukeBrown66 said:

When you say database… have you tried the system where you apply for a check code, like when you need one to hire a car or something. If on that database you do not exist, be very careful driving. Effectively you don’t have a licence, and plod work off that database. You could find yourself getting your car seized etc.
I’m sure at court you would be fine and cleared, but do you really want that stress in your life.
I’d be on the phone to the DVLA morning noon and night until someone picks up. Failing that, I’m sure I read a thread on here that someone got their MP involved and the issue was sorted fairly pronto.

Definitely wouldn’t send my expired licence back to the DVLA until I received my new one, and it showed the correct full licence(s). I have one of my older licences in my junk drawer.
I have had/having issues with V5Cs… I have bought a few motorbikes in the last 6 months. One bike the new V5C never arrived, I had to apply for a replacement. I bought another bike around 9 weeks ago and still haven’t received the new V5. I can’t declare SORN & the old V5 is the old style with the previous owners name/address on it, so the ref number doesn’t work. So, I’m just waiting..again.
