Hi All,

Would appreciate some insight/advice on if I'm getting done for this.

Was commuting home earlier today on the M1 with 60mph temporary speed limit, cruise set to 61mph which shows a gps speed of 60mph. Passed a gantry and got flashed, could I really be getting flashed for speeding in this case?

I'm almost certain that 60mph was the speed displayed on the variable signs as other cars around me were doing about the same. Would the cameras flash if the limit was dropped to 50 as I was passing through?

I understand you get 30 seconds before the new limit applies

Did anyone overtake you when you were flashed? I've been flashed many times passing cameras on the M1, always triggered by a car passing me at the time.

I was driving up and down the m1 a few times over the past week

There was a section somewhere near Luton where I thought we got flashed too (but within the speed limit)

On the way back down I saw the same camera flashing multiple times to an empty carriageway.

I can only imagine it could be faulty?

Sure it wasn’t another car or a truck flashing their headlights to indicate to someone that their lane is clear or similar?

Yes, the stretch through Bedfordshire has some over enthusiastic cameras that flash for no reason all the time. Many times I've crawled past them with all 4 lanes creeping along at 5-10mph and they've flashed with a limit set at 40mph.

There used to a a camera on the A14 that flashed at random, saw it go off on the other side of the carriageway a few times in the early hours when there weren't any cars passing.

There was also a 30mph camera on the way into Epping that flashed when it felt like it, always assumed that it had been set off by the wind moving the branches of a tree 10m in front of the thing but no idea if that would trigger it. Went off as I passed through it's zone once but I was doing less than the limit at the time and never heard anything. Someone must have reset it as I haven't seen it happen in a couple of years.

Also doesn't it do a test fire when the limit is lowered?

Thanks guys, mind is eased a little.

There was a car just leaving the "lined bit" who was going a bit faster than I was so perhaps that triggered it?

Wouldn't worry too much. Had similar a couple of weeks ago on the M1.

Speed limiter set to 60 MPH. Passed underneath a gantry with the limit showing 60. Flash went off just as I entered the white lines. No NIP - think a faulty camera.

do wonder if they just flash occasionally to remind people the cameras are there

If I was them, I'd flash everyone who was above the limit, even if I still followed the guidelines for prosecution.
Obviously I wouldn't being an ardent PH'er
