Hi, Looking for some help or advice on a parking matter. Got PCN from a Horizon carpark. My Daily runner is a Honda Civic but on the day of the PCN, I was in my Wifes KIA. When paying for the ticket I put in the Reg for my Honda by mistake. Obviously the details did not come up for the Honda but still allowed me to buy a ticket based on how long I had parked. Now got a PCN for the Kia.

I've appealed showing proof of the ticket I purchased and explained my mistake with the reg. They have rejected my appeal and countered with a reduced payment of £15.

so my options are ignore the scumbags and drag this out, appeal to a third party they have supplied the details of or pay the £15 and move on.

Any advice ?

If it can soften the blow, I did this - reversed the last two letters of my reg - and so rather than risk it, went to another car park. The original ticket cost £7 and so did the new ticket.

£15 will at least end your worries and stresses, as annoying and unfair as it is.

Honestly in this case I think a £15 admin fee for your mistake is entirely reasonable to meet their costs. If I was you I would be pleasantly surprised that it is a reasonable amount.

So you paid for parking for the wrong car and want to be let off?

Hard to see why they are being scumbags on this occasion to be honest.

Take the £15 offer and run and be more attentive next time.

I'd still say scumbags tbh, he parked a car & payed for the parking, so what if it has the wrong reg

Exactly this....Its not like I was trying to dodge paying or hadn't paid. I provided all the relevant info and asked them to check their system to prove the Honda hadn't entered their carpark on that day ( which they confirmed). A genuine error that could easily be cancelled, so yes definitely scumbags in my book.

All true. However the genuine error on your behalf caused them work (admin) that needs to be paid for. Work out the cost of the 30 minutes or so of the admin time that you (inadvertently) necessitated plus a couple of stamps and you'll be at £15 very quickly.

No it's not ideal. But neither is it ideal that you put in the wrong registration number in the first place.

i did similar a couple of years ago - new car, went to machine and put reg number in of old car without thinking..........the "reduced" fee does feel like a scam as you paid for the service you got, but I paid it to make life easier - exactly why they do it I guess......

Jesus wept.. it's £15, that is genuinely a fair fee for the cost of the additional admin work you have created for them through your mistake. It's normally more like £60.

Because plenty of chancers would take a ticket from another car & make that claim. (Not OP obviously).

I agree with the majority, £15 seems like more than a fair deal.

My Issue isn't the cost of the PCN and like I said, I will Pay it. Its the fact that they acknowledge it was human error and the service had been PAID for already and Still they rejected the appeal. I don't know where this Admin fee thing has come from that people seem to be suggesting as there is no mention of admin fee from either myself or stated in the PCN. It States the appeal has been rejected and the PCN reduced. Why reduce the PCN if it still stands?

In 45 years' driving & nearly a million miles I've only had one parking ticket & it was here:

I bought a ticket in the car park & (car park was much busier) parked in a space edged in yellow not white. Yellow is only for season ticket holders.

I paid up but wrote and complained that the system was badly signed & also discriminated against my colour blindness disability.

The council refunded my fine immediately.

Remember YOU made an error, which THEY have spent resources (=money) investigating and they're asking for a nominal sum to settle.

If you don't like the offer then go ahead and test it out via the appeal procedure. You might win.

I don't care either way. What does irk me is the assumption that businesses (even private parking contractors) should go round absorbing resource costs to mop up other peoples' errors.

Why has a council fine (PCN) been brought into a thread about a private company parking charge notice (PCN).

Idiots already get confused between the two without throwing that into the thread.

Horizon Parking are members of the BPA, whose Code of Practice says that keying errors should not result in a parking charge being made. You should now have a POPLA code - Google the BPA Code of Practice and find the relevant point, write a brief appeal to POPLA.

There are a lot of apologists on PH that seem to post in support of parking companies even when the parking company is in the wrong, as in this case. If you want knowledgeable advice, ignore them and use Pepipoo or Moneysavingexpert instead.
