Hotel not up to standard
Discussion
For my 70th birthday (blimey where did that go!) my wife decided that I deserved a treat so we booked a Luxury Hotel in Richmond North Yorkshire.
We found what appeared to be a lovely Boutique Hotel in the centre of town for £150.00 a night, with reviews of 4.9 out of 5, however on arrival it was not as advertised as the following pics will show.
We were taken out of the hotel to a building adjacent, the lady who showed us the room countered ever objection with sales patter before we could open our mouths so I think she was well primed and practised, probably had a good laugh at our expense back in the office.
No shower! Old bath tub with a beer tankard with the label shower on it. The interior was as decrepit as the exterior with peeling paint dirt and mildew old mismatched, dirty and worn furniture.
The bathroom was a complete disgrace, even if I was inclined to bathe and use the 'shower tankard' this morning at 7.30 the temperature was freezing no heating on, so that was a no go and the final straw.
We left.
I cannot show the link to the hotel in question but if anyone would like it please send me a message.
What we got was this

We decided to stay the first night as we had a meal planned, a mistake I know, we should have left straight away, but we are the daft sort who never complain about anything.
In the morning we did complain to the owner/manager but as you can imagine we were just shown the door, I am willing to pay for one night but not the second, the money has gone from the bank of course.
So experts in consumer law on here what do you think would be the best course of action, I have e mailed the hotel with my request for a refund no response as yet.

The only option when I booked on line was a standard room, the assumption on my part is that it would be like the ones shown on thier website and in the main building, it did not cross my mind we would be marched out of the hotel and next door to where I imagine they must have kept the donkeys in the old days!
I will see if I can copy and paste some pics from the website.

This is what we thought we were going to get or something similar.

Just a little different to what we actually were offered
Those pictures are the bridal suite.Just a little different to what we actually were offered
And whilst 'the shower' in your room is the same as that in a 'standard' room, your room does look decidedly more run down than standard rooms in the hotel pictures. Could just be differences in photography though. You highlighting the poor & them trying to make the same room look as good as possible.
We had a similar issue in a hotel in Salisbury, booked through booking.com
Our room looked like someone’s bed sit that they’d vacated for the weekend. Carpets and furniture threadworn, stains on the walls and doors , cobwebs , windows were rotten by and didn’t seal, water damaged walls, door barely opened, damp musty smell. Was wondering why the reviews page had gone from Google looks like they’ve bitten the dust. What a shame .
They had no other rooms and we were there for a wedding so couldn’t really leave but after much fuss got a refund from booking.com as the hotel didn’t respond to them they gave us one by default.

The reviews for the 'travel agent' Agodo don't paint them in a good light either!
The tripadvisor is fun on the bad reviews - "Owner is a jobsworth. Hotel is a bin."In one reply the owner says the bridal suite is "frequently booked by visiting dignitaries, VIP's and royalty", so must be great !
