As soon as I saw the bat my foot would have slipped of the brake in panic and trapped him between the two cars.

What are the chances of getting away with self-defence if you had driven into him after he got the bat out? I think honestly if he had done that to me I would have been so afraid he was going to take a swing and me getting covered with glass (glass in the eye is no fun) I might have done it just to take him out with the only weapon I had i.e. the car/van.
